Co-Packer (Co-Pack)
A manufacturer that produces your product according to your specifications and formula, using their equipment and facilities. You provide the recipe, ingredients, packaging design, and brand direction; they handle the actual production, quality control, and often warehousing. Co-packers work with multiple brands, not exclusively with you.
Why it matters
Co-packing lets you launch a product without building your own factory or investing in manufacturing equipment, which is usually out of reach for small makers. You'll encounter this option early when scaling from small batches to commercial production, and choosing the right co-packer directly affects your product quality, costs, and ability to meet demand.
What Co-Packer (Co-Pack) is not
Co-packing is not private labeling, a co-packer manufactures your custom product, while a private label supplier sells you an already-made product under your brand. Co-packers also don't own your recipe or product; they're manufacturers for hire, not partners creating something with you.
